Symbol of Indian Currency (INR) and Font

As we all know by July 16th 2010, a symbol of Indian Currency have been introduced. As we can see there are symbols for Dollar, Pound, Euro, Yen and other currencies. Indian currency will also be having its identity worldwide.



On the left is shown symbol of Indian Rupee, known as Rs. or INR worldwide. The design was chosen by conducting a competition in India where 5 signs were shortlisted and the final design chosen is designed by a teacher at one of IIT. His name is Mr. Udaya Kumar.



According to the government officials, efforts are underway to include the symbol in Unicode directory such that printing, representation, and processing of the currency symbol is made easy. Ambika Soni, India's information and broadcasting minister, said that the symbol would be incorporated in all software system including keyboards and mobile handsets.

The font for the word precessors have already available now for you to download so that you can use Indian Currency symbol in your computer.

Step 1 : Download the file from above link and place it in "Fonts" folder, For Windows Vista and Windows 7 : Control Panel> Appearance and Personalization > Fonts


Step 2 : Start using it :)
- Open your word processor and select "Rupee" font from dropbox.
- Use the " ` " key that is just above "tab" key, this will show our new rupee symbol.
- You can print it . :)


[Note - It will not work on your friends computer if you email this file if they don't have font installed.]
